Recently Sown Grassland

Apply the herbicide Acumen® to newly sown grassland leys in the first year after seeding, provided that all clover has reached the one trifoliate leaf stage and red clover has not passed the three trifolate leaf stage. Acumen® can be applied once the grass has reached the two leaf stage.

The use of Acumen® is recommended where the weeds, especially chickweed are at the seedling stage and it is not beyond the end of September. Control of large overwintered chickweed may be less than optimal where treatment is delayed to the spring.

Loss of clover occurs naturally during the winter in autumn established leys.

Keep livestock out of treated areas for at least 2 weeks where Acumen® has been used and until poisonous weeds such as ragwort have died and become unpalatable.

Herbage Seed

For the control of aphids, apply BASF Dimethoate 40 when aphids are first seen. The latest time of application is 14 days before harvest. See product label for full instructions.

Best Practice

Dimethoate is a broad-spectrum insecticide, likely to cause adverse effects on beneficial arthropods and is dangerous to bees. Under no circumstances should the applications be made late in the day when bees are not likely to be in the crop. Local beekeepers should be warned of intended applications.

When spraying crops other than cereals avoid application within 6 m of the field boundary to reduce effects on non-target insects or other arthropods. BASF Dimethoate 40 has a LERAP A.
